In observance of Black History Month, Weis Markets announced donations to two Baltimore-area organizations.

The company committed to funding $25,000 in scholarships for Morgan State University students over the next five years. In addition, Weis Markets donated $5,000 to Northeast Towson Improvement Association, a group committed to preserving East Towson, which was founded by freed slaves in the 1850s.

“We’re pleased to partner with Morgan State University and Northeast Towson Improvement Association this Black History Month. The historic East Towson neighborhood and Morgan State University remain key contributors to the region’s quality of life and economic vitality in an area where we operate 20 stores,” said Ron Bonacci, vice president of Advertising and Marketing for Weis Markets.

"We are grateful to Weis Markets for recognizing the value and importance of creating career pathways for Morgan students. Gifts that ensure our students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed go a long way in building the best possible future for our region and nation,” said Louis “Skip” Perkins, Ph.D., assistant vice president for Development at Morgan State University.

“Weis Markets is clearly a forerunner in matters of equity and inclusion, a commitment evidenced by their engaging community outreach and their tremendous acts of generosity for which we are most grateful,” said Nancy R. Goldring, Northeast Towson Improvement Association President.
